Mondsee
With its two lovely lakes, Mondsee and Irrsee, the MondSeeLand Region was already a popular destination among Austria’s former royalty. Only 27 kilometers out from Salzburg, today it is one of the most desirable summer getaways for innumerable international visitors (some 250,000 overnights stays were recorded in the year 2006).The MondSeeLand Region, which covers the villages of Mondsee (481 meters above sea level), Tiefgraben, St. Lorenz, Innerschwand, Oberhofen, Oberwang and Zell am Moos is a place where sporting opportunities abound. Mondsee Lake is noted for being the warmest swimming lake (up to 26 °C) of Salzkammergut Lake District and is home to the largest windsurf and sailing school in the German-speaking world. Whether you’re into water skiing, rowing, windsailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, canoeing, swimming, or boating, you will find the right venue on Mondsee Lake.
Nearby Irrsee is a natural swamp lake and sometimes reaches temperatures of 27°C, one of the warmest in the entire region. In summertime it’s all about water sports. There are great lakefront places for swimming and many romantic spots to appreciate the lovely natural environment. The MondSeeLand Region has hundreds of hiking trails, fine indoor and outdoor tennis courts, varied routes for cyclists, rich fishing waters and two exquisite golf greens (18 and 9 hole courses). Hit the trail and ride off into the sunset along one of the area’s many horseback-riding trails.
