Seitenstetten Monastery and the Moststraße Fruit Wine Trail
Gentle hills, alleys of pear trees, proud Vierkanthof farms (four adjoining buildings that enclose a square) and amidst it all the Baroque Seitenstetten Monastery: The western part of the Mostviertel district presents itself like a gigantic garden where people dedicate their lives to fermented perry. This is unique in Europe, since elsewhere the apple is the preferred fruit for fruit wines. Thanks to the favourable climate south of the Danube, different sorts of pears can ripen on hundreds of thousands of knobby trees along the 200km-long Moststraße Fruit Wine Trail. There are culinary stations in abundance: “Mostbarone” fruit wine taverns, homey “Moststraße” guesthouses and wine taverns invite to enjoy a break along the Fruit Wine Trail. Accommodation is provided by “Moststraße” hotels and guesthouses and by the hosts of “Mostviertler Genießerzimmer”. There are also quite a few farm shops.
