Admont Monastery
Library & Museum of Admont MonasteryThe late-Gothic library of the monastery, a cultural asset of global importance, is the timeless attraction of the Benedictine monastery of Admont. Since 2003 the new, large museum has been another highlight at its side. The museum covers two wings and four floors.
The top modern architectural design of the museum creates a versatile museum and exhibition concept: medieval writings and early prints, art pieces from the Middle Ages to present time, a nature-history collection, a multi-media presentation of the monastery, special exhibitions, a panorama staircase, a museum shop and a lot more make for a unique experience.
This high-contrast private museum in Austria is a lively place of tradition, of progress and of dialogue. It is a place of plurality, part of the monastery, tourist magnet with gigantic potential to surprise and has a fixed place in the museum landscape of Austria.
The library and museum wings are embedded in the wide-spread monastery area with its garden architecture. From there one enjoys impressive views of the Gesäuse landscape and the National Park. Thanks to their unique programme the library and museum of Admont Monastery have some 80,000 visitors annually.
